Fantastic news! 💙🩺 Dr. Kari Roberts will serve as the inaugural Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) Academic Dean for Tufts Medicine. A highly regarded, thoughtful, and collaborative leader, Dr. Roberts currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at TUSM, and as Tufts Medicine’s Vice President of Education. Dr. Roberts, the associate chief medical officer for graduate medical education at Tufts Medical Center, assumed the role of Tufts Medicine’s first vice president of education in 2021. Since then, she has spearhead system-wide education programs at Tufts Medicine, including undergraduate and graduate medical education (UME and GME). She has worked closely with leaders across the system to create new and expanded clinical education opportunities for residents, fellows, and TUSM medical students. These include clinical experiences, simulation, quality academies, group learning, technology training, and faculty education. Dr. Roberts has also worked to expand opportunities for students enrolled in TUSM’s professional degree programs, including physician assistant and physical therapy programs. Clinically, Dr. Roberts’ practice includes pulmonary hypertension, critical care, and general pulmonary medicine. She shares her clinical experience in these settings with pulmonary critical care fellows and internal medicine residents, as well as TUSM medical students, who consistently acknowledge her as an outstanding medical educator and mentor. Dr. Roberts began her career at Tufts Medical Center in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. Her passions include patient safety and quality improvement, mentorship, and pulmonary vascular disease research. Boston Magazine has repeatedly honored her as a Top Doctor in Pulmonary Medicine. She received the Magnani Award for Outstanding Female Faculty from Tufts’ Women in Medicine and Science Committee and, in 2020, was one of 21 women nationally selected to participate in the Carol Emmott Foundation Fellowship. Dr. Roberts is a graduate of Dartmouth College and The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and subspecialty training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Congrats, Kari!
