Five-year-old Lorenzo is an active kid who loves playing t-ball, riding his bike and helping his dad around the yard. His mom says Lorenzo was in and out of the doctor's office when he was younger due to his asthma. Fortunately, with the support of our Pulmonary and Allergy Personalized Asthma Clinic team, Lorenzo is now able to enjoy the outdoors by following his daily treatment regimen consisting of a steroid inhaler, allergy medication and a rescue inhaler when necessary. #AsthmaAwarenessMonth

While on their babymoon in Turks and Caicos this time last year, Lindsey and Joe Offner from Bucks County, PA very unexpectedly welcomed their baby girl Logan at just 27 weeks gestation. Logan weighed less than 3lbs and needed advanced medical care, so the family called us to arrange for a medical transport. The CHOP Transport Team - a group of medical “superheroes” – flew to Turks and Caicos on Mother’s Day 2023 and brought Logan back home to Philadelphia, where she was cared for by CHOP neonatologists for 73 days before going home. The family is grateful to not only be celebrating Logan’s 1st birthday, but also their first Mother’s Day at home together. Today, and every day, we celebrate the super moms everywhere and thank you for all that you do. Happy Mother’s Day! 💐 ❤️

Jennifer Lynch, MD, PhD, an anesthesiologist and physicist specializing in biomedical optics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute envisions the future of cardiac operating rooms will include advanced technologies that monitor the brain for risk of injury in children with congenital heart disease. Aided by her colleagues in The Lynch Lab for Novel Biomedical Optics and collaborators at CHOP, Dr. Lynch is developing a unique noninvasive neuromonitoring research device and utilizing it in cardiac operating rooms, catheterization labs, and critical care units. “Individualizing care is important for the outcomes of our patients, and the use of this research device may help to improve neuroprotection by matching care to the individual needs of each child. Our quest is to make a real impact in pediatric cardiac care, one optical innovation at a time,” Dr. Lynch said.
