Since the beginning of 2023, Sheralyn Hartline, DNP, RN, CNEP, RNC-NIC, and Stefanie Tanner, MSN, RN, BCEN, have shifted into leadership roles as part of the opening of Cook Children’s second Medical Center in Prosper, Texas. Both nurses described opening a new facility as a unique experience – one that has challenged them and allowed them to think outside the box. Previously at Cook Children's Medical Center - Fort Worth, Stefanie served in the Emergency Department and Sheralyn led the Level IV NICU. Their different perspectives complement each other well. “I am a thinker and Sheralyn is a feeler,” Stefanie said. “We are both very outgoing and truly love our jobs. It’s busy and some days are 10 to 14 hours, but when I’m collaborating with Sheralyn, it doesn’t feel like work.” Read more about the dynamic duo here: https://lnkd.in/gyiNUxKH #NursesWeek #WeAreCookChildrens

It’s #TeacherAppreciationWeek! We’re celebrating Nicole Rogers, Marissa Glasschroeder and Laura Ralston, the incredible teachers who make sure that Cook Children’s patients keep up with their schoolwork while in the hospital. For children and teens, school is an important part of life. It’s where they learn, form their social skills and begin to develop a sense of independence. Keeping up with schoolwork feels familiar and can help things seem a little more “normal” during a child’s stay at Cook Children’s. Plus, it eases their fears of falling behind. Because we recognize the importance of schoolwork for our patients, Cook Children’s partners with @Fort Worth Independent School District to provide school services to eligible patients while in the hospital setting. Our teachers work specifically with children and teens who have a chronic or complex diagnosis, are experiencing an extended hospitalization, or have sustained a life-threatening injury. Huge thank you to these wonderful teachers for all you do to support our patients! Get to know Nicole, Marissa and Laura by watching their videos here: https://lnkd.in/gKPn_igk #WeAreCookChildrens

Rick Merrill, President and CEO of Cook Children’s Health Care System, wrote an op-ed to The Dallas Morning News in response to State of Texas Health & Human Services Commission's decision to exclude Cook Children's Health Plan (CCHP) from the new STAR/CHIP contract starting in September 2025. He urges the state to reverse its decision to ensure CCHP, along with other qualified plans, can continue seamlessly serving our communities and caring for our most vulnerable children and families. Meet one of our change makers, Shakyryn Napier, DHSc, RN, CPN, NEA-BC, director of the Heart Center at Cook Children’s Medical Center. She is known for championing those who need support and shining a light on issues that deserve the spotlight. This leadership won her a spot on the 2024 Dallas/Fort Worth Great 100 Nurses list! Napier’s nomination form described her as “a commendable example for aspiring health care professionals” demonstrated by her completion of a doctoral degree. She’s also said to be a “risk taker” as evidenced by her bravery in sharing her personal tragedy so others may learn from what she endured. Her peers praise her “leadership prowess,” saying she has a unique ability to motivate and support her team even in the face of unprecedented challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. Congratulations, Dr. Shakyryn Napier! Thank you for modeling, teaching and living the Cook Children’s Promise and for advancing the practice of nursing with excellence. https://lnkd.in/gCg-dcfn

“Aetna, which is set to win a multibillion Texas Medicaid contract, got a peek at sensitive information submitted by 17 rival health plans during the bidding process after the state Health and Human Services agency erred and sent competitors’ proposals to the health insurance giant too early, according to emails and documents obtained by The Texas Tribune.” Recent reporting from the The Texas Tribune raises more questions about the procurement process for the STAR & CHIP Managed Care Services Contract. This is related to the State of Texas Health & Human Services Commission's (HHSC) plans to exclude Cook Children’s Health Plan (CCHP) from the new contract starting in September 2025. Important Information for CCHP Members: · Your coverage is still active: Your health insurance with CCHP remains active for at least the next year and a half. · Keep seeing your current doctors and other providers. Nothing has changed. You can continue seeing all your favorite doctors and specialists both at Cook Children's hospitals and clinics as well as our other network providers, just like always. Absolutely nothing will be different for you. · If you are a STAR Kids Member, there have been no announced changes to that program. · Share your experience as a CCHP member or ask questions here: CommunityMarketing@cookchildrens.org. · Stay informed: Visit cookchildrens.org for updates. #ProtectCommunityHealthPlans, #nonprofithealthplans, #Medicaid, #MedicaidBenefits, #CHIP, #HHS, #TexasMedicaid, #healthinsurance, #insurance, #texas, #CookChildrens, #WeAreCookChildrens https://lnkd.in/eDQ6DWxp

Our well-being isn’t just about our bodies. It’s about our minds, our spirits and even the world around us. Hospitals do a lot of good, but they make a lot of waste. They’re the second largest generator of waste in the U.S., and Cook Children’s wants to change that. On May 1, we're rolling out paperless billing through the MyCookChildren's patient portal. Along with that, here’s what else we’re doing to improve the planet’s health and help kids thrive for years to come. To learn more about paperless billing, visit https://lnkd.in/gVbyS-Rv
