Happy #TeacherAppreciationWeek to the incredible Education Liaisons and School Services Coordinators at Lurie Children’s! 🍎✨ Your dedication to ensuring patient school access, both during hospital stays and when transitioning back to school, is truly remarkable. 🏥➡️📚 You go above and beyond to support our patients in achieving their educational goals, despite any medical challenges they may face. 💪 Our School Services team provides academic instruction in all subjects and coordinates special events like Camp Urban Explorers and Science with Style, which create opportunities for growth and learning that extend far beyond the hospital walls. Education Liaisons ensure that schools understand how diagnosis and treatment of chronic health conditions such as sickle cell disease, cancer, epilepsy and congenital heart disease impact the patient’s learning and how best to support patients in the school setting. Thank you for your tireless efforts in advocating for our patients and their families, and for making a lasting impact on their educational journey. 🌟 #ThankATeacher #EducationMatters

A national survey led by Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago found that parents have insufficient knowledge of newborn screening in general and of cystic fibrosis (CF) in particular. “To improve outcomes of conditions like cystic fibrosis that are included in newborn screening tests, stronger partnerships are needed between clinicians and new parents,” said Susanna McColley, MD, senior author on the abstract and Scientific Director for Interdisciplinary Research Partnerships at Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute, and Professor of Pediatrics in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine. “Our results also indicate the need for greater public awareness of newborn screening. Specifically, we need more awareness among providers and the public that infants of all racial and ethnic backgrounds can have cystic fibrosis.” https://lnkd.in/gYzGD4na #CysticFibrosis #pulmonarymedicine #CF #research #newbornscreening #research #pediatrics

Lurie Children’s is pleased to announce the first pediatric use of the novel fluorescent agent CYTALUX during surgery to remove lung metastases. The drug allows surgeons to better visualize cancer in the lung, as well as potentially detect additional cancerous nodules missed by preoperative imaging. This drug is FDA-approved in adult patients, but Lurie Children’s is the first-in-pediatrics to have an Investigational New Drug application with the FDA to study the drug’s safety and feasibility in children. https://lnkd.in/gPvd6AmS
