Follow along as Regan gives us an inside look at nursing in pediatric medicine acute care at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. 👀 These nurses care for pediatric patients, ranging in age from newborns to 18 years, who are being treated for a variety of medical diagnoses. These patients are hospitalized for care involving kidneys, neurosurgery, epilepsy monitoring, respiratory, ear-nose-throat issues, neonatal abstinence syndrome and peritoneal dialysis. Regan says her favorite part about working for Monroe Carell is "helping my patients and their families be as comfortable as they can be during a stressful experience. The hospital is not a fun place to be for a child and their parents, so I always try my best to help ease any fear or anxiety they may have." Join Regan in making health care personal. From patient mom to Perioperative Services Registered Nurse — Jennifer's career at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt began with a scary trip to the hospital for her daughter when she was 6 years old. Her daughter had immune thrombocytopenia purpura and one day, they received a phone call that her platelets fell below 7,000 and she needed to come in. "We had weekly visits to the Hematology/Oncology floor with Dr. Esbenshade. As a parent you come in, you're really scared, you're nervous, and I've never been put more at ease. We would leave the hospital and I would think, 'Those people genuinely love what they do. They actually take pride what they do and love their job,' and I remember telling my husband, 'I want to be part of that. I want to be part of a place that actually genuinely cares and that makes families feel at ease.'" Thank you for your 13 years of service, Jennifer! Vanderbilt Health Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA), in partnership with OrthoCarolina & Curi, has recently published a study that demonstrated successful adoption and implementation of the Patient Advocacy Reporting System® (PARS) program in a single surgical network. The initiative was associated with a decrease of 83% in malpractice claims costs for individuals identified as high risk and a decrease of 87% for the overall practice as a group. These reductions were sustained for 12 years and equated to an overall savings of $18.7 million. This study showed similar reductions in malpractice claims risk to research from our colleagues at Penn Medicine which demonstrated the value of professional accountability coupled with other risk prevention initiatives in reducing medical malpractice in a large health system setting. Meet Anne, a valued member of our team since 2020, working as a nurse in the Electrophysiology Lab at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. As a nurse in this unit, Anne is responsible for preparing patients and their families for procedures. Before their arrival, she guarantees the room and equipment are ready to go. Upon their arrival, she discusses the details of their cardiac procedure, answers questions, and ensures all paperwork is signed. Anne's warm and compassionate demeanor help patients and their families feel at ease during their stay. In addition to her typical tasks, Anne precepts new hires and serves as a resource to her colleagues. She has also played a significant role in preparing the lab for the Magnet designation, which recognizes excellence in nursing. Anne attributes the success of her team to the quality of leadership, from physicians to clinical staff leaders. “I have always felt empowered to express my concerns without apprehension, and I appreciate that management’s focus is on the well-being of our team and the lab.” She also enjoys being in this lab because it "enables us to constantly acquire new skills and knowledge, ensuring that we deliver the most up-to-date and efficient care to our patients.” Join Anne in making health care personal and click the link to book a virtual interview today: http://spr.ly/6047jYHBz
