Session
Description: De-implementation is the discontinuation of practices that have been proven to be ineffective, less effective or less cost-effective than an alternative practices, and are potentially harmful. In healthcare, many practices are often adopted before high-quality evidence supports their implementation. De-implementation efforts often become necessary once evidence is available that highlights the futility of these practices. This session will introduce participants to the concept of de-implementation and highlight current, active and successful efforts including national collaboratives focused on de-implementation of low-value practices. Panelists will highlight the incremental importance of de-implementation in the COVID era, as well as how it relates to other critical issues facing modern healthcare such as health disparities and climate change. Panel participants are experts in the field of de-implementation science with extensive publications highlighting low-value care practices in pediatrics. They have led and designed national efforts including grant-funded multi-center collaborations to rigorously study best practices for de-implementation of low-value practices.
