Session
Description: Approaching the care of critically ill children with precision medicine techniques challenges the practice of using race as a reliable proxy for biological differences. Genomic approaches in the diagnosis and prognostication of pediatric patients are more accessible and less cost prohibitive, making it possible to use these modalities to remove race as an essential consideration in diagnostic algorithms and clinical practice guidelines. This session explores the methodologies that counter the current paradigm of race as a biological variable, while also highlighting the biases that persist in these diagnostic approaches.
