Workshop
Description: "Can you provide me some data on [insert request here]?” This is one of the most common questions encountered by clinical informaticians and information technology staff in modern health systems. Clinicians and administrators are increasingly looking to real world data (RWD), or data generated as a byproduct of care, to provide insights on a range of aspects of health system activities, including individual clinical performance, operations assessments, and clinical research. However, accessing, extracting, curating, and ultimately making sense of RWD can be challenging, requiring personnel with a range of skills, including expertise in information systems management, data management, clinical workflow knowledge and statistical competence. As a result, providing data that readily translates into meaningful information and impactful knowledge can be a time consuming and resource-intensive activity. Organizations that do not optimize the efficiency of their data delivery services commonly face an ever-growing backlog of data requests and frustrated requestors. Organizations that succeed in providing ready, efficient access to meaningful data can experience resultant performance improvements and the benefits of valuable research insights.
Attendees of this workshop will learn to develop data delivery services capable of efficiently fulfilling the clinical, operations and research needs of a modern healthcare organization. Attendees will develop familiarity of the data delivery cycle, including how to elicit salient details from clinician requestors, how to select the appropriate mode for delivering data, how to guide requestors in the practical use of RWD,, and how to integrate all of these into their everyday clinical practice.
