Workshop
Description: Despite the multitude of health inequities often experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ)+ youth, few training programs consistently and comprehensively address these disparities through education and assessment of learners. Over the past decade, programs have begun to incrementally increase the number of hours dedicated to LGBTQ+ health training; however, the lack of standardization for curricula and assessment remains a significant barrier to providing inclusive, affirming, and culturally humble care for LGBTQ+ youth and families. Our team of experts in the field of LGBTQ+ health developed an Entrustable Professional Activity (EPA) that may be used to standardize curricula, assess learners, and highlight programmatic gaps in education related to LGBTQ+ health. In this interactive workshop, we will highlight the importance of LGBTQ+ health training and standardization, define an EPA and how it may be used in medical education, and explore the many ways this EPA may be used to improve LGBTQ+ health education and patient care. Participants will have the opportunity to work together to discover the many applications for widespread program use of this EPA and to develop plans for all aspects of curriculum development, learner assessment, program evaluation, faculty development, and advocating for systemic culture change. All participants will receive a copy of the EPA that they may bring back to their home institutions.
