Workshop
Description: Medicine has traditionally been taught through textbooks. Recently, there has been a shift where medicine has been leveraged on social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Podcasts in order to have access to on-demand and easy to consume medical information. However, education on how providers can and should use these platforms is scarce. This leads to an amalgam of low-to-high quality information that non-medical population may be unable to discern. But social media is not going away, and in fact, YouTube is the second most used search engine for education after Google. It has thus become imperative to give providers the tools necessary to contribute positively and meaningfully to the growing body of work that is published each day on social media platforms. This 90-minute workshop is taught by four social media medical influencers, each leaders on their respective platforms. We will teach attendees how to create their own social media account, introduce them to the tools that we use to create posts, videos, and audio for podcasts, and then share inside tips and tricks to create high quality content for a desired platform. Finally, attendees will leave the workshop by developing their very own first post about the Pediatric Academic Society within the social media platform of their choice, using the tools learned. Attendees can leave and create their own medical, educational social media account that will help learners, families, and patients for years to come. Join us on this adventure into the PRESENT of medicine.
