Description: ObesityWorking Title: The Interplay of Mental Health and Obesity – A Debate of Size Acceptance and Discussion of Practical Tools
The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the severity of long-standing interplay between pediatric and adolescent mental health and obesity. Stigma and shame have exacerbated both mental health and obesity, but what roles do size acceptance and “health at every size” play in the pursuit of health? Solicited feedback from our SIG membership and past attendees has shaped our theme for 2023. Our twofold goal for the 2023 Obesity SIG is to stimulate thoughtful dialogue of the role of size acceptance in obesity prevention and treatment through a debate format, and give attendees practical tools for addressing the intersection of mental health and obesity, particularly as it relates to disordered eating.
