Description: Immunization SIGIn this APA Immunization SIG session, we welcome Dr. Sean O'Leary, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado, who will present background on vaccine hesitancy, existing evidence regarding vaccine communication, emerging vaccine communication science, and recommendations for vaccination discussions in clinical encounters. The presentation will include a series of cases demonstrating use of the recommended communication techniques. Dr. O’Leary will also review the strengths and limitations of recent vaccine safety data regarding aluminum exposure from vaccines. Following his presentation, there will be opportunity for questions and discussion.

Implement new knowledge in discussions with vaccine hesitant parents.
Describe new ideas about the architecture of vaccine conversations with parents in order to promote more effective and efficient communication.
Discuss the behavioral science underpinning evidence-based communication techniques.
