We conducted semi-structured interviews with 10 physicians (5 general EM, 5 pediatric EM), 15 ED nurses, and 8 patients/caregivers. Table 1 displays participant quotes identifying vulnerabilities in the diagnostic process and opportunities for intervention. We categorized interventions under 1) communication 2) information gathering 3) ED organization and infrastructure 4) patient education and self-management and 5) electronic health record (EHR) use (Table 2). We identified 23 potential interventions of which 15 were care-team focused and 8 were patient focused.
