Session
Description: The past decade has seen the emergence of new viruses which cause disease in children such as COVID 19 and multisystem inflammation syndrome in children (MIS-C), viruses such as Zika that became newly identified as a teratogen, and others that are re-emerging as the globe warms, such as West Nile Virus. Some viruses have just been overlooked, such as lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) and are likely responsible for more infections than recognized. This session will pull together information on causes, pathophysiology, treatment and outcomes of these viral threats to children. Specifically, the following will be addressed: Zika, COVIID 19, MIS-C, Parechorvirus, and LCMV. The following are the speakers and presentations:
1. Cynthia F. Bearer, MD, PhD, Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Introduction.
2. Sarah Mulkey, MD, PhD., Children's National Hospital. Lessons from Zila virus and Long-term impact on Child Development
3. Eleanor Molloy, MB, PhD, Trinity College Dublin.
4. Nada Harik, MD, Children's National Hospital. Neonatal Parechovirus Infection.
5. Daniel Bonthius, MD, PhD, Levine Children's Hospital. Injury to the Developing Brain by Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus.
