Description: While care advancements in pediatric nephrology have significantly improved survival of children with kidney disease, renewed focus on what it means to live well is necessary. Physical symptoms are highly prevalent in the experience of chronic kidney disease, and patients and families indicate a desire to have these needs met. Addressing these patient and family-prioritized outcomes can subsequently enable the ability to flourish while living with chronic kidney disease. This symposium will unite experts to disseminate expertise in identifying, assessing, and managing various symptoms associated with kidney disease. The overall goal of this symposium will be to empower pediatric nephrologists to attend to these myriad symptoms, enabling the flourishing of the patients and families for which they care. Each speaker will provide an overview of methods to identify, assess and manage the symptom of focus.
1. Topic/title: Fatigue, Sleep AND Mood Disorders in CKD
Objective: The speaker will provide an overview of assessing and managing fatigue and sleep disorders in children with chronic kidney disease
2. School and Employment Outcomes in pediatric CKD
Objective: The speaker will provide an overview of school and employment outcomes in Pediatric CKD.
3. Topic/title: Parental and patient perspective on symptoms in children with CKD
Objective: Family with child with CKD will shares lived experience with CKD symptoms that affect them most and share how well the team did with asking, understanding and providing resources for managing these symptoms.
