Session
Description: Brief Description of Overall Session:
The goal of this session is to review hot topics in pediatric chronic kidney disease, including novel therapeutics and approaches to diagnosis. This session will review new diagnostic techniques and therapeutic agents, and discussion of how these may be applied to children with CKD.
Topic/title: Update on renal function estimation
Objective: Understanding concepts of measuring kidney function by newer methods being researched: such as functional MRI and transdermal GFR measurement.
Topic/title: Computational pathology and nephrology: what can I learn from a 2D picture?
Objective: To understand advances in computational pathology and how such advances are changing pathology-based diagnoses, research, and therapeutics in children with CKD.
Topic/title: SGLT II inhibitor use in children with CKD
Objective: To identify the potential role for SGLT II inhibitor use in children with CKD, with and without diabetes; to review the mechanisms of SGLT II inhibition and hypothesized reasons for therapeutic efficiency and potential barriers to their use in children with CKD.
Topic/title: Endothelin Receptor Antagonists and Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists in Pediatric CKD
Objective: Endothelin receptor and Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists have been studied in CKD progression, including FSGS and IgA nephropathy. This session will review the evidence and discuss use of these agents in pediatric CKD.
