Workshop
Description: Simulation education has become an integral component of the curriculum at all levels of medical training. Telesimulation is a simulation approach that allows learner and faculty flexibility in scheduling and location by allowing facilitators and learners to interact in real-time from any location. Video conferencing and telehealth platforms are proven versatile tools for teaching technical and non-technical skills to geographically distributed learners both locally and globally.
In this workshop, experienced simulation facilitators will use adult learning strategies to engage participants in exploring approaches to remote facilitation and debriefing in the context of pediatric procedures and simulations with practical approaches to utilizing technology including videos, video conferencing and specialized telehealth platforms. Interactive techniques including think-pair-share, small group break-outs and large group discussions will be used to engage participants in exploring the applications of telesimulation, theoretical aspects of remote facilitation and debriefing and effective approaches for facilitating and debriefing simulations with remote learners.
Participants with various levels of experience in small groups of “remote facilitators” will be presented with pre-recorded videos and live demonstrations by faculty to highlight approaches and opportunities for remote facilitation and debriefing on common neonatal procedures. The workshop will leverage various technologies including videos, video conferencing and specialized telehealth platforms to demonstrate currently available tools for telesimulation. Participants will be provided handouts and worksheets to support the development of an implementation plan for telesimulation at their home institution.
