Workshop
Description: Early breastmilk expression is best achieved by baby feeding at the breast, or by hand expression of milk (as opposed to an electric pump), as shown by Flahermanet al (2012) and Ohyamaet al (2010). Proper hand expression technique takes practice to learn, and a lactation simulation model can provide an opportunity to master this important skill. A small group educational session will be incorporate a lecture with videos, followed by a hands-on learning experience with a high-fidelity Lactation Simulation Model. Practical techniques for proper latch/positioning of baby, as well as pumping will also be discussed.
