Session
Description: In this session we will reflect on an important area within the field of hospital medicine and child health more globally. As firearm-related deaths among youth has climbed to the top cause of mortality, hospitals and emergency rooms continue to play an active role in caring for these afflicted individuals and their families. We invite a panel of pediatric hospitalist experts to share their research, policy, and local improvement efforts related to mitigating firearm-related injury and violence in their hospitals and communities. We will also ask them to share their advocacy journey with attendees to demonstrate how we as a community can become involved in efforts to drive policy change at the local, state, and national levels. We will end the session with a brief summary of collaborative networks within hospital medicine around research, quality, education, and equity, including updates and opportunities for attendees to get involved.Learning Objectives:
