Description: Remediation is not uncommon in GME; over the last five years 10% of pediatric residents have needed remediation. Remediation is defined as additional goal-directed training, supervision, or assistance imposed on or provided to a learner who is not meeting competency-based goals beyond what is typically required for a given specialty. Program directors struggle with the most effective way to remediate residents due to the significant amount of time, energy, and effort required to carry it out; however, there is limited evidence guiding best practices in remediation. Our primarily interactive session aims to close this evidence gap by using data from a recent national survey of pediatric program directors to guide attendees to develop methods to best identify, monitor, support, and evaluate the struggling resident. Attendees will also have the opportunity to build a model for use in their home institutions to successfully remediate trainees while minimizing bias and stigma.
