Session
Description: In this session, Dr. Joseph L. Wright will receive the 2023 Academic Pediatric Association (APA) George Armstrong award in recognition of his remarkable contributions and leadership in addressing systemic racism and dismantling practices that perpetuate inequities in pediatric training, clinical care delivery, and faculty advancement. Dr. Wright will provide the historical context of racism, discrimination, and bias as we strive to achieve child health equity. Our academic pediatric community must commit to sustaining anti-racism initiatives and strengthening our resolve to make lasting changes. The session will include research presentations from early career investigators followed by updates from educational leaders of the APA and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) about ongoing efforts and publicly available anti-racism resources for trainees and faculty. We hope attendees will leave informed, inspired, and equipped to tackle challenges, change the culture, and serve as anti-racism leaders, champions, and partners at their home institutions.
