Session
Description: The annual symposium will highlight and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of bilirubin-induced neurotoxicity and their clinical implications. A better understanding of predisposing genetic conditions that are associated with the development of adverse effects on the neonatal brain injury due to severe hyperbilirubinemia will help improve clinical practice and reduce the incidence of bilirubin neurotoxicity (acute and chronic bilirubin encephalopathies) in the USA and globally. The 2022 American Academy of Pediatrics Revised Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of Hyperbilirubinemia will be discussed. Topics:
1. Molecular Mechanisms of Bilirubin Brain Injury – Claudio Tiribelli
2. Overview of the 2022 American Academy of Pediatrics Revised Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of Hyperbilirubinemia – Alex R. Kemper
