Workshop
Description: Making the leap from trainee to junior faculty can be a challenge. This transition may provoke anxiety and uncertainty in a new and uncharted environment as new faculty attempt to build relationships and clinical expertise. Skills in career development, mentorship, contract negotiation, and the business of medicine may not be covered by residency or fellowship training, but they are critical to thrive in an academic career. We will cover these topics in a knowledge café format, allowing you to learn from faculty who have recently navigated the same transition. Participants will rotate through themed tables, each focused on a different aspect of career planning. Table leaders will offer experience-based pearls, answer questions, and encourage interactive discussions. This workshop was created by members of the AAP Section on Hospital Medicine Subcommittee of Pediatric Educators. Utilizing our collective experiences and feedback we aim to provide resources and mentorship to resident and fellow conferees seeking careers in any pediatric specialty, in a format designed to promote open dialogue, networking, and collaborative learning among leaders and attendees.
