Session
Description: Burnout: Measuring it or preventing it in the first place While physicians are encouraged to deal with "burnout" through breathing exercises, meditation and developing resilience, there needs to be greater emphasis on addressing the factors that contribute to "burnout" and being able to mitigate them. Women physicians are more likely than their male colleagues to be multi-tasking, balancing family, children and their professional life and hence are especially adversely affected by inefficiencies in the workplace.. This session will examine "Practical Ways to Address Physician Burnout and Restore Joy in Practice" by Mary T. Brown MD (2019 www.afp.org.fpm). Included in the discussion will be assessing the culture of medicine and the work environment, creating inspirational leadership (notion of leading from the middle) and crafting a business model to address the inefficiencies especially those related to the EHR. The goal of the session is to help the attendees recognize what promotes "joy" during their workday, what detracts from it, and how to remedy the situation.
