Session
Description: Learning from the past to build the future for Children with Medical Complexity and their familiesThe Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MChB) funded a four year improvement project, the Collaborative Improvement and Innovation Network to Advance Care for Children with Medical Complexity (CMC CoIIN) with multiple goals including improving child quality of life, family wellbeing and the cost-effectiveness of care. Principal Investigator, Meg Comeau will explore high-level learnings from this national project including the value of effective family partnership, how to operationalize it and navigate challenges including equity. In 2022, the MChB published A Blueprint for Change: Guiding Principles for a System of Services for Children and Youth With Special Health Care Needs and Their Families which considers four critical, interconnected areas including health equity, family and child well-being and quality of life, access to services, and financing of services. Reflecting a focus of 2023 PAS, namely the Impact of Policies on Health and Research, policy-makers including representatives from state agencies, health services researchers, clinicians and the audience will discuss how the blueprint can support the holistic care that children with medical complexity and their families need.
