Peripheral oxygen desaturation < 80% was associated with significant cerebral deoxygenation in some but not all events. One contributing factor appears to be the duration of IH80 events, as longer events were associated with lower rSO2 values. Investigation of the relationship between varied length and severity (nadir) of IH and the rSO2 may inform clinical care in this high-risk cohort and provide a plausible connection to later observed neurodevelopment impairment.
